Mock Exams

One of our great strengths is the fact that for many years our pupils have been gaining places at London’s top schools. As a result we have a large body of first hand evidence provided by our helpful parents and pupils from which to check that what we provide is very similar to what they will actually experience. This allows us to adjust our system every year to focus on what the schools seem to be looking for from their candidates.

Mock exams are a useful way of practising for the experience of taking exams but just taking endless exams at home does not prepare children for that, any more than using a reasonable textbook would. We also would highlight that taking exams a long time in advance of the actual exams can lead to undue anxiety as children are not going to perform to their full capacity nine months before the school process.

Our mock exams are designed to replicate the experience of taking a school examination because the children are in a classroom with other children that they do not know and with teachers they are unfamiliar with giving them instructions. Part of the process is that ability to listen to instructions and operate sensibly in an independent fashion at all times during the process. Our exams are carefully arranged throughout a reasonable time frame in the run up to the real thing.

In terms of feedback we mark all the exams at the time and give them back to parents immediately. We believe this is a more helpful and useful way of doing things than keeping the exams for a while and sending electronic reports.

Our exams test the skills required for all of the main independent schools in London. We do not believe in claiming that any particular exam is exactly the same as any school. That is not something that anyone apart from the school can actually know so we aim to test the core skills necessary and give children the confidence that they can tackle any of the variety of tests that they will be taking.
