The below is a part of our 7+ 2024 Report. Our full report, which contains specific feedback from our candidates who applied to KCS, WU and SPJS, will be distributed to our current clients. Should you wish to receive a copy, please enquire.
This is intended as a brief review for those contemplating the exams at these schools next year.  However, there is never a guarantee that the exams will follow the same pattern. Do not solely rely on packs from some providers that claim to be a particular school’s pack. They include a more generic set of work and are not necessarily what will be forthcoming in the exam.
The basic skills required are:
English
- Ability to read at a level higher than your age (generally 2 years ahead)
- Being able to write quickly and legibly
- To understand a comprehension and answer the questions correctly with accurate punctuation and spelling in full sentences.
- If doing multiple choice candidates need to be able to refer carefully to the text to make sure their answers are correct rather than relying on memory and guessing
- Creative writing – candidates might need to be able to write a story or a piece of non fiction fairly quickly.
- Dictation – ability to listen, remember and write down information in an accurate fashion
Maths
- Complete questions covering the full curriculum
- Be able to complete the paper in time and accurately
- Be able to check their work and eliminate careless mistakes
Reasoning
- Competence in both NVR and Verbal reasoning. Â Often require quite wide ranging vocabulary.
Stamina and Maturity
- The exams are very challenging – children need to go to the schools for the first round. Â They are there for at least 3 hours and need to be able to cope with that without becoming too tired or emotional.
- The teachers do aim to be reasonably friendly and positive but the exams are very formal and they will not help any candidates who are sitting and doing nothing.
